Meaning

Indicates that an action or event takes place within a specific period. Unlike 'aida' (without 'ni'), the action does not necessarily continue for the entire duration.

Examples

家族が寝ている間に、手紙を書きました。

I wrote a letter while my family was sleeping.

日本にいる間に、一度富士山に登ってみたいです。

I want to climb Mt. Fuji at least once while I'm in Japan.
