Learning & Studying
How does the Spaced Repetition System (SRS) work?
Our SRS uses the SM-2 algorithm to schedule reviews based on how well you know each word. Words you struggle with appear more frequently, while words you know well are shown at increasing intervals. Over time, this moves words from short-term to long-term memory with minimal effort.
What do the mastery levels mean?
Learning: you're still getting familiar with the word. Familiar: you recognize it but may not recall it instantly. Mastered: you know the word well. Retired: you've marked it as fully known and it won't appear in reviews.
How do the flashcard swipe directions work?
Swipe right for Easy (you knew it immediately), left for Forgot (you didn't remember), up for Good (you recalled it with some effort), and down for Hard (you barely remembered). Each direction adjusts the next review interval accordingly.
Can I review words from a specific notebook?
Yes. You can start review sessions from any scope: all saved words, the default notebook, or any custom notebook. Due word counts are displayed as badges on each notebook card.
What are the interactive sentences?
Example sentences throughout the app are rendered as interactive text. Each content word is clickable — tap it to look up its definition instantly. You can also toggle grammar highlights to see recognized grammar patterns with tooltips.
How do I practice writing characters?
Go to the Strokes page, enter any hiragana, katakana, or kanji character, and switch to Practice Mode. Draw each stroke in the correct order on the canvas. Correct strokes lock in place with a green flash; incorrect strokes reset for retry.
