Meaning
Indicates a manner, way, or style of doing something, or the state of someone/something. It often follows determiners like 'konna' or verbs/nouns via 'to iu'.

彼はまるで夢を見ているというふうに、遠くを見つめていた。
He was staring into the distance as if he were dreaming.
合格したというふうな顔をして、彼は部屋に入ってきた。
He walked into the room with a look on his face as if he had passed.
最近は忙しいというふうな様子で、彼はあまり遊びに来ない。
He hasn't come over much lately, appearing as if he's been busy.
彼は元気だというふうに大きく手を振って、去っていった。
He waved his hand energetically as if to say he was doing well and left.
