Formation
Meaning
Indicates a very high degree, leaving nothing more to be desired. It is a very formal expression used in formal situations.
Note
Indicates a state of ultimate or extreme emotion. Used in very formal speech, such as awards ceremonies, official speeches, or formal apologies. Commonly used as 'kouei no itari' (utmost honor), 'kyoushuku no itari' (deeply grateful/apologetic), or '感激の至り' (utmost gratitude/emotion).
Examples
このような名誉ある賞をいただき、光栄の至りでございます。
It is the utmost honor to receive such a prestigious award.
あんな失敗をしてしまい、若気の至りとはいえ恥ずかしい。
To make such a mistake is extremely embarrassing, even if it was out of youthful folly.
