Suzuki countered quietly. "Certainly, Sensei's actions might be called selfish. However, who can loudly condemn him, who tasted a pain as if being torn between the sense of stagnation of the era and his own sense of ethics? That is nothing other than the fundamental weakness of human beings."

"It probably means that without looking into the dark parts lurking in the depths of the human heart, one cannot reach true understanding."
