〜を兼ねて

Meaning
Indicates that an action is performed for multiple purposes or functions simultaneously. There is usually a primary purpose, and another purpose is being served as well.
Note
Often used in the form 'Aを兼ねてB', where B is the main action and A is an additional purpose being fulfilled. It implies doing two things at once for efficiency or convenience.
Examples
散歩を兼ねて、駅まで買い物に行きました。
I went to the station to do some shopping while also taking a walk.
仕事の打ち合わせを兼ねて、一緒に昼食を食べた。
We had lunch together for a business meeting as well.
運動不足解消を兼ねて、最近は一駅分歩くようにしている。
To also help solve my lack of exercise, I've started walking one station's distance lately.
趣味の実益を兼ねて、週末はカフェで働いています。
Combining my hobby with some practical benefit, I work at a cafe on weekends.
