Meaning

Used to express that regardless of the situation or action described, the subsequent result or determination remains unchanged. It emphasizes a strong will or a fact that is unaffected by circumstances.

Note

A formal and literary expression. '〜ようと' is used interchangeably with the same meaning. It is often used with 'dou' (how), 'nani' (what), or 'doko' (where) to emphasize that the outcome is independent of the condition.

Examples

雨が降ろうが、槍が降ろうが、私は絶対に行きます。

No matter if it rains or if spears fall from the sky, I am definitely going.

誰が何と言おうと、私の決心は揺るぎません。

No matter who says what, my resolution will not waver.
