他動詞

たどうし
JLPT:N1
Frequency:

1A transitive verb — a verb that takes a direct object (typically marked with を) and expresses an action the subject performs on something else. Many transitive verbs (開ける, 閉める, 上げる) come paired with a matching intransitive verb (開く, 閉まる, 上がる); telling the two apart is a core challenge in learning Japanese.

The best way to get comfortable choosing between transitive and intransitive verbs is to memorize them in pairs.

「窓を閉める」のように、他動詞は誰かが意図的に行う動作を表すことが多い。

Transitive verbs often express an action someone performs intentionally, as in 「窓を閉める」 (to close the window).
