1A room where performers, guests, or officials wait before going on, being called, or meeting — e.g. a backstage green room, a holding room for wedding guests, or a court or assembly waiting room. On signs and in official/government writing the okurigana is usually dropped (控室).
結婚式が始まる前、親族は控え室で待っていた。
