If we assume that... / If ... were to actually happen. Used to talk about hypothetical situations and their consequences.

明日、世界が終わるとしたら何をしますか?
If the world were to end tomorrow, what would you do?
一億円宝くじに当たったとしたら、家を買いたい。
If I were to win 100 million yen in the lottery, I'd want to buy a house.
その話が本当だとしたら、驚きだ。
If that story were to be true, it would be a surprise.
