1A formal, somewhat old-fashioned word for an adult woman. In everyday speech, 「女性」(josei) is now more common; 婦人 mainly survives in set phrases like 「婦人服」(women's clothing).
デパートの婦人服売り場で母のセーターを買った。
I bought my mother a sweater in the women's clothing section of the department store.
その老婦人はゆっくりと歩いていた。
The elderly lady was walking slowly.
新聞の見出しに「婦人が救助される」とあった。
The newspaper headline read, "Woman rescued."
