Meaning to perform an action without doing another action first or instead.

A more formal version of 'nai de'. Note the irregular form for 'suru' which becomes 'se-zu-ni'.

昨夜は、歯を磨かずに寝てしまった。

Last night, I went to bed without brushing my teeth.

辞書を使わずに、この本を読み切った。

I finished reading this book without using a dictionary.

朝ご飯を食べずに学校へ行った。

I went to school without eating breakfast.

傘を持たずに出かけて、雨に降られた。

I went out without an umbrella and got caught in the rain.

復習をせずに、試験を受けた。

I took the exam without reviewing.
