Meaning

Used to express an opinion from a certain person's standpoint or to make a judgment based on specific evidence.

Note

Has two main uses: 1. Standing in someone else's shoes ('For a person in that position...'). 2. Making an inference from visible or audible evidence ('Judging from X, it seems...'). It is neutral but can sometimes imply that the speaker is not in that position themselves.

親からすると、子供の幸せが一番だ。

From the standpoint of a parent, a child's happiness comes first.

客の立場からすると、このサービスはあまり良くない。

From the customer's standpoint, this service is not very good.

初心者からすれば、この操作はかなり難しいだろう。

From the standpoint of a beginner, this operation would probably be quite difficult.

周囲の人からすれば心配だろうが、本人は平気なようだ。

From the perspective of those around them, it may be worrying, but the person themselves seems fine.

今の実力からすると、試験に合格するのは難しいかもしれない。

Judging from my current ability, it might be difficult to pass the exam.

声からすると、彼女はまだ寝ているようだ。

Judging from her voice, she seems to be still sleeping.
