先月、新しいアパートに引っ越すことにしました。前の部屋は駅から遠くて、毎朝バスに乗ってから電車に乗り換えなければなりませんでした。雨の日はずぶ濡れになることもあるし、通勤に時間がかかりすぎていたので、思い切って引っ越そうと決めました。
Last month, I decided to move to a new apartment. My old place was far from the station, and every morning I had to take a bus and then transfer to the train. On rainy days I'd sometimes show up soaked, and the commute was eating up too much of my time, so I finally bit the bullet and decided to move.
週末に、近くの不動産屋さんに行きました。「駅から十分以内で、家賃は八万円までで探しているんですが」と言うと、店員さんがいくつか候補を見せてくれました。地図を広げて、一つひとつていねいに説明してくれて、こんなに親切なお店だとは思いませんでした。
On the weekend, I went to a real estate agency nearby. "I'm looking for something within a ten-minute walk of the station, with rent under eighty thousand yen," I said. The agent showed me a few candidates. He spread a map out on the desk and explained each one carefully — I hadn't expected this kind of shop to be so kind.
午後から、三つの部屋を見に行きました。一つ目は駅から近くて便利でしたが、台所がとても狭くて料理しにくそうでした。二つ目は広かったですが、隣の道がうるさくて夜眠れないかもしれないと思いました。三つ目のアパートが、駅から歩いて五分、日当たりもよく、家賃もちょうどよかったので、その場でここにすることにしました。
In the afternoon, I went to view three of the units. The first was conveniently close to the station, but the kitchen was very narrow and looked hard to cook in. The second was spacious, but a busy road ran right next to it and I worried I might not be able to sleep at night. The third was a five-minute walk from the station, got great sunlight, and the rent was just right — I decided on the spot to take it.
引っ越しの一週間前から、少しずつ荷物を箱に入れておきました。本やCD、洋服など、思っていたよりずっと多くて、夜遅くまで片付けをする日が続きました。引っ越し当日は、大学時代の友達が二人手伝いに来てくれて、軽トラックで一日のうちに運び終わりました。
Starting a week before the move, I packed my things into boxes a little at a time. Books, CDs, clothes — there was much more than I'd realized, and I kept tidying late into the night for several nights running. On moving day, two friends from my university days came to help, and with a small light truck we managed to carry everything over in a single day.
新しいアパートにはいろいろなルールがあります。夜十時以降は大きい音を出してはいけません。ゴミは曜日ごとに分けて出さなければならなくて、最初はなかなか覚えられませんでした。それから、ペットを飼うこともできません。
The new building has all kinds of rules. After ten at night, you can't make loud noises. Trash has to be sorted and put out on the right day of the week, and I had a hard time remembering it all at first. On top of that, pets aren't allowed.
少し面倒に感じることもありますが、みんなが気持ちよく暮らすために必要なルールだと思います。
There were moments when it felt like a hassle, but I think these are necessary rules so that everyone can live comfortably side by side.
引っ越してから一週間が経ちましたが、新しい生活にだんだん慣れてきました。毎朝、東向きの窓から朝日が入ってくるので、気持ちよく起きられるようになりました。通勤時間も三十分以上短くなって、心にも余裕ができたような気がします。引っ越してよかったと、毎日少しずつ感じています。
A week has gone by since I moved in, and I'm gradually getting used to the new routine. The east-facing window lets the morning sun pour in, so I can wake up feeling refreshed. My commute is more than thirty minutes shorter, and I feel like I have a little more room in my head, too. Day by day, I keep feeling more glad I made the move.
