Senpai, could I get some advice from you about my job hunt?
Sure. Are you in the middle of doing interview practice right now?
Yes. But I always get so nervous that I can't get out what I want to say. How do I learn to answer with confidence, the way you do?
First, I think you should think a bit more deeply about why you actually want to join that company. If you have an answer you really believe in, the words will come out naturally even when you're nervous.
I see. So instead of just listing the company's good points, what you really need to convey is what you can do for the company.
Exactly. And as for interview practice — the more you do it, the more confident you get, so there's nothing better than repeating it over and over.
Could you tell me how I should be practicing?
Talking in front of a mirror is good, and I'd also recommend pairing up with a friend and asking each other interview questions. You'll be bad at it at first, but everyone gets better with experience, so there's no need to worry.
Hearing you say that takes a bit of a weight off my mind. I get discouraged every time I mess up, so I'd been getting kind of passive about it.
There's no need to dwell on it when you fail. If anything, it's precisely because you failed at an interview that you can see what to fix for next time — better to think of it as a good experience.
Yes, I'll try changing how I look at it. Thank you so much.
Anytime. If anything else comes up, feel free to come talk to me whenever.
