Yes. Given that the sample size in this paper is under one hundred people, I felt that the conclusion may be pushed a bit too far.
なるほど、鋭い指摘だね。確かに、統計的な信頼性の観点からいうと、十分なサンプル数とは言いがたいかもしれない。それで、君ならどう改善すべきだと考えるかい。
I see, that's a sharp observation. Certainly, from the standpoint of statistical reliability, it would be hard to call that a sufficient sample size. So how would you go about improving it?
そうですね。最低でも五百人規模のサンプルを集めた上で、改めて同じ仮説を検証すべきではないかと思います。それに、アンケートの対象者が特定の地域に限られているのも、結果の一般化を妨げる要因だと思います。
Well, I think the same hypothesis should be tested again after collecting a sample of at least five hundred people. On top of that, the survey respondents being limited to a specific region is another factor that, I think, gets in the way of generalizing the results.
その通りだ。調査方法に偏りがある以上は、結果を全国の傾向として一般化することはできないからね。さらに付け加えると、回答者の年代構成も偏っているという指摘もできるかもしれない。
Exactly. As long as there's a bias in the research methodology, the results cannot be generalized as a nationwide trend. To add another point, you could argue that the age distribution of the respondents is also skewed.
確かに、論文の表三を見ると、回答者の七割が二十代と三十代に集中しています。高齢者の意見が反映されていないことについても、検討する必要がありそうですね。
Indeed — looking at Table 3 of the paper, seventy percent of respondents are concentrated in their twenties and thirties. The fact that the views of older respondents aren't reflected seems to be another thing worth examining.
よく気がついたね。したがって、この論文の主張をそのまま鵜呑みにするわけにはいかないという、君の結論に私も賛成だ。
Well noticed. So I agree with your conclusion that we cannot simply take the claims of this paper at face value.
