昔々、「ジャック」という男の子がお母さんと一緒に住んでいました。彼らはとても貧しかったので、お母さんは大切にしていた牛を売ってくるように言いました。ジャックが市場へ行く途中で、不思議なおじいさんに会い、牛と魔法の豆を交換してしまいました。
Once upon a time, a boy named Jack lived together with his mother. Since they were very poor, his mother told him to go and sell their precious cow. On Jack's way to the market, he met a mysterious old man and ended up exchanging the cow for magic beans.
家に帰ると、お母さんはとても怒って、その豆を窓の外へ捨ててしまいました。しかし次の日の朝、豆は信じられないほど大きく成長して、空まで届く木になっていました。ジャックは雲の上に何があるか見たくなって、その豆の木を登り始めました。
When he returned home, his mother was very angry and threw the beans out the window. However, the next morning, the beans had grown incredibly large, becoming a tree that reached up to the sky. Jack wanted to see what was above the clouds, so he began climbing the beanstalk.
雲の上には大きなお城があり、恐ろしい巨人が住んでいました。ジャックは巨人が寝ている間に、金の卵を産む鶏や、歌を歌う金の琴を見つけました。「これを持ち帰ったら、お母さんが喜ぶはずだ」と考えたジャックは、それらを持って急いで逃げ出しました。
Above the clouds, there was a large castle where a terrifying giant lived. While the giant was sleeping, Jack found a hen that laid golden eggs and a golden harp that sang songs. Thinking, "If I take these back, my mother will surely be happy," Jack took them and hurriedly fled.
途中で巨人が起きて、怒って追いかけてきました。ジャックは下まで降りると、急いで斧で豆の木を切り倒しました。巨人は地面に落ちて死んでしまいました。その後、ジャックとお母さんは、金持ちになって幸せに暮らしました。
On the way, the giant woke up and chased after him in anger. Once Jack climbed down to the bottom, he quickly cut down the beanstalk with an axe. The giant fell to the ground and died. After that, Jack and his mother became wealthy and lived happily.
